TASTING NOTES

MILK CHOCOLATE | ALMOND | TART CHERRY

El Pacayal can be found in San Miguel Pochuta, Chimaltegango, Guatemala. The farm benefits from the rich volcanic soils produced by the nearby volcanoes - Atitlan, Fuego, and Acatenango. The land is comprised of 950 hectares of coffee along the South Coast Highlands of Guatemala with an additional 600 hectares of private natural reserve.

The coffee is grown at an altitude ranging from 1,050-1,600 meters above sea level. The sub-tropical climate in this region, influenced by the Atitlan Crater Lake and the Pacific Ocean, provides an average temperature of 24° C (75° F). The altitude and climate create an ideal environment for growing excellent quality specialty coffee.

Caravan's purchase of this coffee contributes five cents per pound to support the Guatemala Children's Burn Foundation. More information about the burn center can be found below.

The Guatemala Children's Burn Foundation was founded by the owner of the El Pacayal farm, Dieter Nottebohm, in 2007. This non-profit organization has funded updated pediatric burn units and a rehabilitation clinic at three national hospitals in Guatemala. In Guatemala, 50,000 burn cases occur each year, and the majority of those cases are children from low-income families. Few hospitals in the country have adequate physical facilities or trained personnel, and the demand for burn treatment is increasing. The foundation has been instrumental in providing crucial care through improved facilities and medical equipment. Caravan is proud to support the incredible work this foundation is doing in Guatemala.
