Women coffee farmers in Bolivia have traditionally held lower status in society, despite playing an essential role in the country's coffee production. In 2009, women coffee farmers in the Caranavi region of Bolivia made the decision to separate their coffee production from the men. By forming an association and beginning their own Café Femenino program, these women have been able to improve their livelihoods, future prospects, and the health of their families and communities. The Union ProAgro Cooperative now includes 42 women producers, 2 of which hold leadership positions.

The participating women farmers have reported a multitude of positive changes in their lives and communities since joining Café Femenino in 2009. For them, the most valuable change is their successful creation of a cooperative space in which all women have educational opportunities and the chance to have their voices, ideas, and opinions heard at the highest level of leadership. With access to coffee industry training workshops, computer and accounting education, and community health programs, these women are also able to plan a better future for their families, communities, and themselves. The changes these women have fought for have taken them far from their previous societal positions of inferiority and subjugation. Beginning from a place of low self-esteem and self-worth, the women of the Café Femenino Bolivia Program now view themselves as business women in charge of their own destiny.
