Francisco Sergio de Assis farms near the town of Monte Caramelo in the Minas Gerais state of Brazil. His farm is named Terra Rica Estate–it has 475 hectares (1173 acres) and produces 20,000 bags of coffee every year. The coffee is naturally processed to bring out the sweetness of the bean, and it is harvested from May to September. It’s a special coffee we’ve been buying for years, and a special relationship.
Still, this coffee is special in other ways. The children in the area were drinking unsafe tap water, which was full of bacteria. Now, thanks to Cape Horn Coffee and Caravan Coffee, they have clean water! Stephanie Palm Meves, Executive Director of Socially Conscious Coffee, says, “Water filters and fountains that were just delivered and installed have already made a difference!”
Along with Cape Horn Coffee, we are giving $.10 for every pound of this coffee sold to the school for disadvantaged children in Bahia Brazil to fund these fountains and water filters. So far, that reaches $2300. We are excited to partner with Socially Conscious Coffee and Cape Horn to make a difference all along the coffee chain.
